Singapore’s Future

October 4th, 2016

Singapore, often referred to as “The Gateway to businesses in South East Asia” enjoys a sound infrastructure, unmatched global and regional connectivity, and attracts multinational corporations especially in the commerce and IT industries. As a matter of fact, the IT sector is considered one of the most competitive industries in the Singapore marketplace. Singapore has continued to attract major global players by establishing itself as an IT hub.

The Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) said domestic firms in the information technology services and infrastructure sectors will play a key role in supporting the nation’s growth this year. “Demand for information and communications services is expected to be firm, with the Government's Smart Nation initiative, which includes procurement of a wide range of IT services and infrastructure, providing the boost,” MAS said in its quarterly report on recent economic developments. Singapore’s Smart Nation will create more opportunities and build stronger communities in order to improve the lives of its citizens by using technology to the fullest.

The goal of Smart Nation is to advance communications, create more efficient living options, and comprehensive public transportation system. Singapore’s government will demand more innovation from the IT industry by upgrading its ICT infrastructure and developing more technical capabilities including application development, hosting, cyber security, data science and analytics. Singapore’s commitment to innovation makes it an attractive home for global industries.

The Smart Nation plan will harness the strengths of the government and private sectors by using technology to bring about higher quality lives and bigger business opportunities. The Government is attracting industries, talents, encouraging technology builders and entrepreneurs from around the globe to join in their strong infrastructure and join the nation on their Smart Nation journey to test new ideas and solutions that will impact Singapore and the world.
