Asia's Global Economic Impact

May 8th, 2017

Asia continues to be a global leader and is forecasted to be the biggest contributor to global growth in 2017 accounting for 60 percent of world activity notes the Asian Development Bank (ADB) Asia’s growth outlook is very encouraging to investors and setting their minds at ease as geopolitical tensions rise in the continent, such as North Korea’s missile strikes to relations between the United States and China, the world’s two biggest economies. According to the ADB, Asia is expected to continue to make the largest contribution to growth in the world by generating around two thirds of worldwide growth. More than half that is expected to be from Asia’s developing economies. The developing economies of East Asia and Pacific are projected to expand at 6.2 percent in 2017 and 6.1 percent in 2018. Due to sustained growth and rising labor incomes, poverty is likely going to continue to fall as well. In the large and developed economies of Asia, growth is expected to pick up slightly to 5 percent in 2017 and 5.1 percent in 2018, up from 4.9 percent in 2016. Also, add in the expanding cross-border flows of goods and services within the ASEAN Economic Community, Asian economies, infrastructure, investment, and the new mobility of goods and services across the region, Asia can continue to advance globally thrusting the region into a world wide economic force.

Emerging markets in Asia, such as Myanmar, Cambodia, Laos, and Vietnam, are becoming key drivers behind the growth boom in Asia. These newly industrialising countries are experiencing growth rates at a rapid pace. As a result, an increasing amount of foreign entrepreneurs have decidedly set their sights on Asia.
